mon père

My father's birthday is in November.
I always give him a card or something little, but this year I'd been busy and Unfortunately I missed it.

He's been asking my mother what to wear when he goes out for a long time now, but he used to care about what he wears by himself when he was young.
He was skinny, but firm. He's been loved playing and tampering with machines, and also loved going to the mountains and seas.
He had few cameras and he made a dark room in his own room at home. He used to develop photos by himself. Since he got a camera when he was in his teens, he'd been taking a self portrait on his birthday ever year by the same window in his parents' house until he left.
Nowadays he carries digital cameras everywhere, but all the same he loves taking photos.

Around the time when my father and mother met, the photos are either in black and white or in faded colours. It was around 60's and 70's so the fashion and scenery give me an impression of an old French film.
I like the black and white photo of him, being a young man, above very much.
He's shooting something with a cigarette in his mouth.
It reminds me of Jean-Paul Belmondo.

This one was taken by my mother.
He was playing a seesaw with us- two big brothers and I.
He's mischievously grinning with a cigarette in his mouth again.
He doesn't smoke at all now, but he was a heavy smoker then.
Even he never touch a cigarette now, but he's still doesn't talk much.
This picture again reminds me of France, which is interesting.

I wish him to stay being well.
He's been working so hard for us and now he's spending his time for his own pleasure, but I'm worrying about his health.
A toned body had gone somewhere already and every time he moans about pains in his eyes, shoulders, and hip joints, I teach him how to care his body, a simple training, or give him a massage, but nothing he carries on without me.
So I sigh over my lack of skill and experience, but the day passes me by as usual.

I take after him a lot, but there are many things I don't.
However, there is nothing I think I was glad I didn't take after at all. Which is a surprising fact to me and at the same time, makes me happy.
So, it's a little late, but happy birthday mom père.

sweet thorn, sweet poison

"Sweet poison."

When I saw my friend after a long absence, she gave me this word.
She said that when we met for the first time about ten years ago, there are hard thorn, or rather poison inside of me and they were keep appearing and disappearing. But they have becoming sweet poison year by year.

I don't feel bad hearing it from someone gorgeous.
No, it's a joy to hear something like that.

Sweet thorn, sweet poison.
Including changes, I want to stay being myself forever.

back to basics

At the Pilates lesson I attend every week, my master says that basics is the most important thing. When we get used to the movements, we tend to stop paying a great attention to basics. So we must concentrate on making sure each movement is properly controlled.

At the South Indian cuisine lesson, we had three new faces this time.
They were surprised at popping mustard seeds or curry leaves with great force at tempering, or sweet and appetizing aroma of spice, and only a spoonful of spice can change the impression of the dish. Those things were forgotten by regular members of the class. Three girls were cheered many times at something and they kept taking pictures. That reminded me of myself when I came to the class for the very first time.
While this six months, spice became to feel so close to me and I got used to trivial things.

Basics is the base because it's the most important thing.
I shouldn't forget the faithful feeling.

control and freewheeling

From SUKASOA homepage

About the play my brother NOY was in.
It was A Portrait of a Girl in Glass by T. Williams. Performance by SUKASOA.

The story was set in a poor house in St. Louise, America, 1930s.
As the title says, it had very fragile relationships and between them, I could see a tiny light sparkling every now and then.
My heart was almost breaking and squeezed with pain by watching it.

The space was normally used for exercises by the company. They used it as an empty space which means no set nor props. Only actors pantomime represent those things.
I love empty space.
I can see actors' "live" emotion.

There are many performance styles and I think each of them is enjoyable, but I think I love the one makes a great deal of creating "atmosphere" the best.
Of course there are plays which speeches are important, but ultimately, I think speech can be altered.
Most of the plays I've been seen are in English. And some were in French, Czech, and the languages I don't speak.
What is interesting about those things is that I can see characters' relationships better when I can't understand the language.
Important thing is to visualise colour and shape of each character's energy and where he/she is heading for. That is energy of the actors and those things are so fragile and run low when you are caught with speech.
Just like when you travel foreign lands and you don't understand languages, you still understand locals' feelings.
That is because you are taking out the essence of what you want to express.
Everyone can do it without knowing.
Actors need to do the same thing on the stage. Be the character and burn the essence of the feeling exhaustively with control. I think that's the pleasure of acting and attactive part of live performances.
