1 India! India!
その2 Kochi Day 1

A lovely boy. |

Spice Witch Training in India Part3
Coming home
Part1 India! India!
Part2 Kochi Day 1
At a B&B in Kochi, three of us slept really well and woke up in the next morning with light feet and we were ready to start learning.
On the night before, we were told that we were going to have coconut pancakes in the morning by our host mother, so went to bed, thinking about "Coconut pancakes!!" like kids.
Indian coconut pancake we learnt is called Mutta Palada. Thinly baked pancake like a crêpe and roll some freshly grated raw coconuts.
We use ghee not butter so it tastes more tender.
When you bite into soft chewy crêpe, your teeth would feel joy on crunchy raw coconuts and sandy sugar inside.
We were told that the Spanish (I guess) guests who stayed here before us loved this Mutta Palada and asked to have them every morning while they were staying.
Chai, which Jezna made for us, I asked her to make it without sugar, but the milk was naturally sweet already and I thought it's sugared. However, it had richer flavor than sugar and it reminded me of the days I was working at the milk farm in Hokkaido long time ago.

We decided to go to a town with a huge shopping mall on this day.
It's our buying day.
We got on a bus to Lulu Mall.
By sitting on a vinyl covered seat for a long time, we sweated. Wind blew into the bus from the windows without windowpanes, and the bus was running ever so energetically. The pedestrians crossed the road like they knew every timing to avoid the bus which was running toward them without dropping its speed a bit.
The guys who were in charge of ticket control, shouted out loud "Lulu mall! Lulu mall! Lulu mall! Lulu! Lulu! Lulu!"every time the bus came near to the bus stop-looking place. There were no sign nor timetable at the bus stops as far as I could see. It's like people got together to get on a bus and the bus stopped where the people got together.
A stop after a stop, more passengers got on the bus and everyone had to sit very close together. The bus was shaky and it's hard to stand. I was admiring the colours of saris and scarfs of the ladies. A little boy was curiously looking at my camera which was poking in and out its lens every now and then from underneath my scarf and made a blink toward the road. I raised up my lens to him and gestured if I should take his photo, and he made a lovely smile and posed for me.
The mall was packed as it was a day before Easter Sunday.
We three witches looked what kind of shops there were and had tea lunch, and then bought lots of sari and panjabi fabrics.
At the restaurant we had lunch, I thought that maybe in any country, a place like this serves something not so special as a special thing and it's a very common and normal thing to do so.
I ordered a cup of chai and it was a little spiced normal tea with milk. The same thing also happens in Japan and UK. I love hot and dark masala chai which served in a shot glass looking mini glass at a stall in India.
All the street food were on table with fancy style! |
We were so tired with a crowd of people, so we only bought fabrics.
On the way back to Kochi, we got off around the place where Aco was told there were some good places to eat by her friends, but when we found one, it wasn't opened yet for dinner and the area seemed a bit dangerous after dark, so we went back to a bus stop again and jumped into an absolutely packed bus again. We were totally knackered the whole way back to Kochi.
And the supper was delicious and we were very surprised as we didn't ask anything special...
We had a shower and did foot massage and Pilates.
I did lots of breathing exercise on this night so everyone went to sleep so deeply.
To be continued....
