今日、古本屋さんで見つけた。

中島完さんの訳によるエミリー・ディキンスン(ディキンソン)の詩集。

ディキンスンを読むのは久しぶりだった。

ぱっと開いたページは、よく知られた詩ではあったけれど、

とてもこころに響いたので、ここに引用。

もし私が一人の心の傷をいやすことができるなら

私の生きるのは無駄でない

もし私が一人の生命の苦しみをやわらげ

一人の苦痛をさますことができるなら

気を失った駒鳥を

巣にもどすことができるなら

私の生きるのは無駄ではない

Today I found this at a secondhand book shop.

A collected poems of Emily Dickinson translated by Tamotsu Nakajima.

It's been a long while since the last time I read something by Dickinson.

The one I found on the page I randomly opened was the one quite famous, but it reached my heart deeply today, so I quote it here.

IF I can stop one heart from breaking,

I shall not live in vain;

If I can ease one life the aching,

Or cool one pain,

Or help one fainting robin         

Unto his nest again,

I shall not live in vain.
